Shillong: Opposition leader Dr. Mukul Sangma has pushed back against claims that Trinamool Congress MLAs plan to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Rumors recently surfaced suggesting several lawmakers from different parties are preparing to jump ship. Sangma rejects these reports entirely.
Reports alleged that nine members of the United Democratic Party are planning a move to the BJP. Some sources suggest these UDP members traveled to New Delhi to hold talks with BJP leadership. Neither the UDP nor the BJP has confirmed these discussions yet. If the nine UDP lawmakers do switch sides, it would significantly boost the BJP before the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election and the 2028 Assembly polls.
Sangma claims the BJP has long worked to poach members from rival groups. He insists his party remains stable. During a recent interview, he stated, "BJP-ni dilgiparang, gipin political party-rangni MLA-rangko rime katna ka·enga. Gipin party-rangni MLA-rang BJP-o napangnaba gnang indiba angade uamangoni saksa ong·ja." The TMC leader maintains that no one from his camp is leaving.
