Imphal: Manipur authorities ordered the immediate transfer of the Thanlon Tribal Development Block from Pherzawl district to Churachandpur district. The move shifts all government offices, public establishments, and rural development schemes into the Churachandpur administration. Officials expect the change to fix administrative coordination and help residents in remote hill villages access services.

The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department issued the order on October 27, 2026. The Manipur Gazette published it as an extraordinary issue on October 28. Secretary Sunanda Thokchom signed the directive, and Ngangbam Roben Singh provided digital verification. This decision ends an administrative setup active since 2016, when the state first split the original Churachandpur district.

The order follows the Revenue Department’s 2016 notification regarding the initial district bifurcation and a January 6, 2022, notification concerning the re-amalgamation of the Thanlon Sub-Division. Churachandpur stands as a Kuki-dominated district with over five lakh residents. According to the state government, this change serves to "align the block’s jurisdiction with an earlier revenue reorganisation" that previously reconnected the sub-division with Churachandpur.
