Imphal: Thangkhankhup Guite, the 33-year-old son of Zomi Reunification Organisation president Thanglianpau Guite, is entering politics. He announced his run for the 56-Thanlon Assembly constituency in Churachandpur district on October 28. The declaration occurred during a prayer event at his father's residence in Dorcas Veng, New Lamka.
Guite holds an MBBS degree from the Saraswati Institute of Medical Sciences in Uttar Pradesh. He also serves as the village chief of Aibulon. He remains undecided on his political party affiliation. "I wish to declare that I have decided to contest the upcoming Manipur Assembly election from the 56-Thanlon Assembly constituency," Guite stated.
The Thanlon seat remains vacant. BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte held the position until he died in February 2026. Valte suffered fatal injuries during the May 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur. The state expects to hold elections before the current assembly term expires on March 13, 2027.
Healthcare is his focus. Guite plans to push for better roads, communication, education, and water supply. He pledged to pursue economic progress and balanced growth for all tribes. He cited his father's values of honesty as his guiding principles for public service.
The candidate’s father heads the ZRO. This organization acts as the parent body for the Zomi Revolutionary Army. That group sits within the United People's Front, an umbrella organization currently under a Suspension of Operations agreement with the government.
