Kohima: Nagaland citizens are fighting back against the Pan Naga Body. They sent an open letter to the Chief Minister on October 14. The group warns that the scheme remains unacceptable. The proposal, linked to talks between the NSCN (IM) and the Indian government, threatens local autonomy. Signatories include Takuyaba, Kahuto Chishi, Kevisiezolie Suohu, Dr. Kepelhousie Terhuja, Neisakholie Ziephru, Khekiye Sema, and Thepfulhouvi Solo. Others chose to remain anonymous.
The letter traces Naga independence back to the 1929 Simon Commission demand. They argue that outsiders fail to grasp local traditions. Former Governor and interlocutor RN Ravi once admitted he did not know the intricacies of Naga customs. In Nagaland, the villagers own the land. This practice is protected under Article 371A. The proposed Pan Naga Body would create a common cultural authority with a Supreme Head. The writers claim this, "is strikingly contrary to the democratic culture of the Nagas of Nagaland."
The group remains firm. They reject any plan that lacks territorial physical integration. Copies of their letter went to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval. They also sent copies to NSCN (IM) Secretary Th Muivah, NNPG Convenor Kitovi, FGN Kedage Kezhalevor Angami, RN Ravi, and Governor Nand Kishore Yadav.
