Kohima: A breakaway faction of the NSCN(IM), calling itself the NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank, established a provisional government on July 23. This move follows an Extraordinary Joint Emergency Meeting held July 21 at Mt. Horeb Camp. Chaired by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan, the gathering signaled a sharp break from the parent organization led by Th. Muivah.
The group appointed Ikato I. Chishi Swu as chairman. The provisional body also includes members Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Victor Angami, Lt. Gen. A. Raman, Brig. Detail Dani, and Angyo Jacob Jingseya. Ngaranmi Jagoi, Merry Ramsan, and Rev. Vitovi Yeputho will serve as advisors. These leaders plan to take an oath of allegiance before an ordained minister.
The faction declared all recent expulsion orders against its leadership null and void. The NSCN(IM) had previously ousted Ramsan, Raman, Angami, Swu, Yeputho, Pamshang Zimik, and Jingseya. The new government labeled these expulsions as fabricated attempts to silence veterans and force a piecemeal solution.
The Eastern Flank rejected the Competencies submitted to the Government of India. They claimed these documents violate the party manifesto and the Preamble of the Yehzabo by accepting the Constitution of India. The group cited a 2019 ultimatum from the Centre, which reportedly ruled out further talks on a separate flag and constitution. Despite this, the group alleges the Hebron leadership continued negotiations.
The faction declared the spirit of the 1997 ceasefire agreement dead. Referencing a November 7, 2024, statement by Th. Muivah regarding the potential to resume resistance, the group stated, "If such political initiative is rejected by the Government of India, the NSCN shall resume violent armed resistance against India for defending the Nagalim unique history and her sovereign existences." The Eastern Flank claims the current leadership failed to act on this warning. They vowed to pursue both political and armed resistance to protect the sovereign existence of the Naga nation.
