Shillong: Former Meghalaya transport minister Ismail R. Marak joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He signed on in Tura to help the party gain ground in the Garo Hills. High-ranking officials managed the event. BJP Meghalaya in-charge and MP Kanad Purkayastha, state co-in-charge Numal Momin, and state president Rikman G. Momin oversaw his entry.

Marak brings deep experience to the party. He won a seat as an MLA for the Rongram constituency in 2008. In 2015, he secured a spot on the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council representing Asanang. He also held the post of state transport minister. These roles grant him strong local networks.

Party leaders see his arrival as a boost for their reach. The central leadership gave Marak a specific job. He must manage all future inductions into the party. This move aims to coordinate new members and tighten the BJP grip on the region. Leadership stated, "Marak's induction comes as the BJP seeks to expand its presence across Meghalaya and other parts of the Northeast."

Success hinges on more than just names. The party must turn this addition into actual voter support. They face stiff competition from established regional groups. Marak now serves as the bridge between the BJP and the local power structure in the Garo Hills.
