Guwahati: Kamrup district officials will survey three villages in Borduar Bagan to resolve ongoing land ownership disputes. District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra announced the plan after meeting with residents and local groups at the Jarapata playground on Friday, October 24. The area falls under the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council and sits within the Palasbari Assembly constituency.
About 14,000 bighas of land currently remain registered to the Borduar Tea Company. Mishra noted that the administration must first assess ground conditions before moving forward with any settlement plans. He told the crowd, "The first step would be to conduct a survey to assess the ground situation and determine the nature of the land-related issues."
A new committee will oversee the process. This group includes members of the administration and local organizations. They will iron out the rules for issuing land pattas once the survey concludes. Palasbari MLA Himangshu Shekhar Baishya pushed for this progress to honor his campaign promises. He attended the meeting alongside Co-District Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Kalita, Co-District Superintendent of Police Daisy Gogoi, and Circle Officer Angkita Sarma.
The administration has not yet defined who qualifies for a patta. They also set no limits on land allotment sizes or a completion date for the survey. Residents pushed for quick action to secure their property documents.
