Assam Awards Forest Rights Titles to 18 Residents in Kamrup District

Guwahati: The Assam government issued 18 Forest Rights Titles to eligible residents in Kamrup district on October 2. Local leaders handed out the documents during a special event held at the District Commissioner's Office in Amingaon. The move falls under the Forest Rights Act, 2006.

Three different groups from the Singra Forest Range received the titles. Officials gave 10 titles to the Gohalkona-Buraburi Forest Rights Committee, five to the Sijubari FRC, and three to the Bhogdabari FRC. Attendees noted the state took this action, "facilitating the recognition and issuance of forest rights titles to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with the provisions of the Forest Rights Act, 2006."

Three MLAs oversaw the distribution: Raju Mesh of Boko-Chhaygaon, Prakash Chandra Das of Hajo-Sualkuchi, and Diganta Kalita of Kamalpur. Kamrup District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra also attended the ceremony. Several other high-ranking officials were present, including DDC Garga Mohan Das and four ADCs: Pranjit Deb, Aditya Gogoi, Biswajit Saikia, and Debashis Goswami. The Divisional Forest Officer for the Kamrup West Division and local committee representatives joined them to mark the occasion.
