Guwahati: A new road surface in Kaliabor, Assam, started peeling off just 24 hours after crews laid the bitumen. The two-kilometre stretch connects Shensowa village to Puwathariya. It is a disaster. Residents say the black-topping comes off in layers if you apply the slightest bit of pressure.
The Public Works Department started this reconstruction project to fix a road that sat in ruins for a decade. Now, the project is a mess. Locals claim workers failed to clear dust and sand from the base before pouring the asphalt. They argue the contractors ignored basic standards to save time.
Disgruntled residents want an immediate investigation into the work. They claim PWD officials and engineers turned a blind eye to the shoddy workmanship. People remain frustrated as the project continues despite the obvious defects. One resident stated, "The black-topping reportedly coming off in layers."
No official from the PWD or the contracting firm provided a response to these allegations. The construction remains ongoing as locals push for a full review of the materials and methods used on the site.
