Guwahati: Residents of Kaliabor in Assam are still waiting for a permanent fix. Three years ago, floodwaters from the hills surged down and wiped out a vital culvert. The structure connected Bamuni Piporatal and Jaokata. Today, it remains missing. The local government has done nothing to replace it.

More than 1,000 families currently rely on a flimsy bamboo bridge to get around. Local residents built the structure themselves to keep their village connected. It is a daily gamble for anyone crossing it. Students must cross the bridge every day to reach their schools. The makeshift crossing is their only path for regular transportation.

People living in the Chikoni-Barhola Gaon Panchayat area are fed up. They claim their elected representatives and the local governing body have ignored their needs for years. The neglect has left the community stranded without safe road access. Residents have called for urgent intervention, stating: "The prolonged absence of a permanent crossing has continued to affect the daily lives of people in the area."

The community is demanding action now. They want authorities to build a permanent bridge or reconstruct the original culvert immediately. The current setup is a safety hazard that hampers daily life for every family in the area.
