Guwahati: Assam police launched two separate operations in Kamrup district this week, hitting both human trafficking and cybercrime syndicates. Suwalkuchi Police raided the Nij-Gandhamau home of Lalchand Ali, where they rescued 10 people. Officers detained Ali on-site. Intelligence reports suggested agents recruited the victims from across the state with false promises of work as laborers in Kashmir. Investigators believe Ali has run this operation for a long time, specifically targeting transient individuals without permanent addresses. Police are currently digging into the network to identify other recruiters and determine where the group was headed.
Separately, a late-night sweep in Tupamari pushed the total number of cybercrime arrests to 14. Personnel from Nagarbera and Tupamari police stations, supported by Boko-Chhaygaon subdivision leadership, apprehended four men: Mahsud Ahmed, Intadul Haque, Habel Uddin, and Saiful Islam. Searches at their homes yielded a haul of evidence including bank passbooks, cheque books, and ATM cards.
Local residents want authorities to finish the job. They have demanded that officials find the remaining players in the ring and deliver strict justice. One official noted, "Police are investigating the suspected network to ascertain the nature and extent of the alleged activities and determine the individual roles of those arrested." Investigators remain in the field and anticipate making more arrests as they sift through the recovered documents.
