Police rescue 13 trafficking victims at New Bongaigaon station

Guwahati: Government Railway Police pulled 13 people off a train at New Bongaigaon Junction after receiving a tip. The group was traveling on the Tinsukia-Tambaram Express from Arunachal Pradesh to an unknown location. They had no clear destination. Police caught the group at night, ending the journey abruptly.

The rescued victims include four women, six men, and three children. Officials identified them as Rashmita Muria, Anita Munda, Anita Munda, Pinky Rath, Rohit Rath, Deben Karmakar, Ramu Nayak, Sanjay Nayak, Dhano Nayak, Bikram Chautal, Mantu Munda, Debeswar Munda, and Ajit Nayak. Authorities now hold them for verification and safety.

Namsai Police in Arunachal Pradesh are leading the investigation into the transport operation. They want to know if a human trafficking network is behind the movement. A police spokesperson stated, "Namsai Police in Arunachal Pradesh have taken up the investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the 13 people were being transported and whether a human trafficking network was involved."
