Guwahati: Police pulled 26 dogs from a private vehicle in Bokolia Ghat on Wednesday. The car, tagged with registration number AS 07 P 6725, was stopped during a routine operation in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Officers intercepted the transport amid fears that the animals faced inhumane conditions.

Authorities identified Niranjan Rongpi as a person of interest in the case. Police have not yet confirmed his direct involvement. Officers still lack clear information regarding the origin or final destination of the animals. Cramped, unsafe transport causes serious risks. "The circumstances surrounding the rescue will need to be examined to determine whether any provisions relating to animal cruelty or unlawful transportation were violated," authorities noted regarding the ongoing investigation.

The animals remain under observation. Officials are still waiting on specific data regarding the medical condition of the rescued dogs. No official charges have been filed against any individuals as investigators work to establish the facts of the transport.
