Zikzak Block Staff Train on RTI Compliance

Shillong: Officials at the Zikzak Community and Rural Development Block in Ampati sat for a training session on the Right to Information Act this Monday. The staff focused on mastering the central 2005 legislation alongside the newer Meghalaya Right to Information Rules, 2025.

Giles Ch Sangma, an advocate based in West Garo Hills, led the instruction. He broke down the legal requirements for Public Information Officers, covering everything from mandatory record keeping to disclosure exemptions. The training hammered on statutory timelines and the formal appeals process. It was a long day. The group worked through real-world obstacles, discussing the practical hurdles of drafting replies and staying on the right side of the law.

Participants spent time on case studies and a final open-house discussion to sharpen their skills. The goal remains clear. "The programme concluded with case-study exercises and an open-house discussion aimed at improving compliance and efficiency in handling applications at the block level," officials noted after the event.
