Taxi drivers demand lights and toilets at Shillong parking lot

Shillong: The Shillong Sohra Tourist Taxi Owners and Drivers Association (SSTTODA) hit the Shillong Municipal Board with a fresh demand. They want lights and toilets installed at the MUDA parking lot in Iew Mawlong immediately. The facility sits on the second floor of the MUDA building across from Rani Motors.

Darkness fills the lot. This creates major safety risks for women and kids heading to Sohra, Shella, and Mawkyrwat. The taxi group flagged these concerns in a letter to SMB Chief Executive Officer PK Boro on Monday. The current setup offers no sanitation or illumination.

Shanlang Diengdoh, the association secretary, noted the group first pushed for these upgrades on July 9. The board ignored the request. They also brushed aside resolutions passed by the association executive committee on May 23, July 4, and August 13.

The association wants action now. They stated, "functional toilets and adequate lighting are basic necessities critical to passenger safety and public hygiene." To force the issue, they sent copies of their memo to Sohra MLA Gavin Miquel Mylliem, Shella MLA Balajied Synrem, and Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar.
