Shillong: The Meghalaya College Non-Teaching Employees Association gave the state government until November 1 to pay outstanding Dearness Allowance and fix career progression schemes. Failure to act triggers an immediate stir. The association demands the DA hit 53% and wants the Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme active now.
President Jewel Son Roy Lyngdoh said the staff missed three successive revisions at 49%, 51%, and 53%. The 49% installment was due back in January 2025. Financial pressure is mounting. Employees are struggling to stay afloat as the government stalls.
Attempts to settle this started in October 2025. Bureaucrats keep blaming slow file movements between departments. The association tried to meet Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on September 20 but never got the invite. "We have been running from one department to another. They have been making us go round in circles until we are exhausted and left in the dark," Lyngdoh said.
Paychecks are currently arriving just once every three months. The staff has had enough. They expect the government to meet the November 1 deadline, or they will escalate the conflict.
