Deficit School Teachers Threaten Escalation Over Unmet Demands

Shillong: The Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) plans to ratchet up its agitation against the state government. Teachers met with School Managing Committee representatives on Saturday at PGT College in Laitumkhrah to solidify their support base. They aim to force action on a long list of grievances that officials have ignored.

KJDSTA president Boswell Pala called the turnout productive. Several committee members backed the fight and urged the union to take even tougher steps. Pala warned the movement will only grow until the state acts. He stated, "The association would continue its movement and was prepared to intensify the agitation until its demands were fulfilled."

The union demands the implementation of the Contributory Provident Fund and National Pension System alongside the release of backlogged Dearness Allowance arrears. This includes the 51 percent and 53 percent installments. Teachers also want the 10 percent CPF contribution deducted from their paychecks addressed and vacant school posts filled immediately.

Beyond pay, the association insists on scrapping the Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employees Centralised Provident Fund Scheme of 2026. They want the Board of Trustees restored and the School Provident Fund blocked from the deficit system. The teachers are also pushing for the Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme, faster salary disbursements, and structural reforms to protect the current deficit school setup.
