Guwahati: Forest officials rescued two leopard cubs near a residential area in Margherita, Tinsukia district, this week. The male and female pair, aged roughly two to three months, were found within the Margherita East Range of the Digboi Forest Division. The Wildlife Trust of India confirmed the recovery on Saturday.

Authorities previously spotted an adult female leopard in the same vicinity and moved her to Dehing Patkai National Park. The department attempted to reunite the mother with her young, but the effort failed. These cubs are now in the custody of the IFAW-WTI Mobile Veterinary Service Unit for Eastern Assam. The unit coordinates with the Assam Forest Department and operates with help from the Ashrayhasta Trust.

Wildlife experts warn that cubs remain highly vulnerable when left without maternal protection. Encounters between humans and big cats often create dangerous situations for everyone involved. Regarding the situation, officials stated, "The two cubs would require specialised care and appropriate wildlife management measures."
