Guwahati: Locals in Takouni village, Tinsukia district, spared an Indian rock python after the reptile swallowed six ducks on Thursday. Instead of killing the snake, the villagers called wildlife rescuers. Doomdooma Forest Division officials arrived to secure the massive predator. They followed standard handling protocols to avoid injury.

The python is a protected species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act. It remains non-venomous and helps the environment by keeping rodent populations in check. The snake often hunts poultry in villages near the forest edges. Wildlife conservationist Devajit Moran praised the local response. "Although the python had consumed six ducks, the villagers chose compassion over retaliation and immediately informed us," Moran said.

The team moved the python to the Dibru River banks. It was released into the wild unharmed. Moran urged residents to keep calling pros when wildlife enters human spaces. Every conflict-free rescue marks a win for local conservation efforts.
