Shillong: The All Meghalaya Muster Roll, Progressive Workers’ Union elected a new slate of leaders to a three-year term. The team aims to tackle retirement age disputes and welfare gaps. General secretary Bympher Lyndem confirmed the union will press authorities for progress. The Veterinary Department recently moved eight union members into Group-D posts. NK Lanong leads the new team as president, joined by vice presidents Johnson Blah and Adyen John.
Labor coordination continues. The Joint Action Committee Muster Roll, advised by Khroo L Pariat, serves as an umbrella group for state unions. Lyndem says the two organizations will weigh a formal partnership soon. Other board members include assistant general secretaries Bankerlang Kharrngi and Eugenia Wallang, treasurer Wanda Majaw, finance secretary John Kennedy Lyngkhoi, publicity secretary Pynskhem Shangdiar, and joint secretary Wanphai Nongkseh.
Separately, entrepreneurship training wrapped up at the NEHU-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College. Fifty people studied food-processing technology over two days. NECTAR Director General Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma touted the importance of mobile processing units. He told attendees, "Technology-driven food processing is vital for adding value to local agricultural resources and creating sustainable livelihoods in the Northeast." Officials also pushed for using schemes like PM VIKAS.
Job seekers flooded the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society in Jowai. Over 1,100 youths registered for work during a recent drive. The office remains open for new applicants on the third floor of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra hosted 116 farmers at its Moopun hall to discuss buckwheat management. Experts covered value addition and branding, while farmer Paia Myliempdah offered tips on organic fertilizer and beekeeping.
