Guwahati: The Assam government will hand out the State Teachers Award 2026 to 15 educators on Saturday, September 5. This ceremony honors the 65th anniversary of Teachers Day. The event takes place at the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati.
A state level committee picked the winners. The Directorate of Secondary Education released the final list after government approval. The group includes principals, assistant teachers, postgraduate teachers, head teachers, and one headmaster. The recipients span both secondary and elementary schools. As the state government stated, the award recognizes "their contributions to school education in the state."
Nine educators earned spots in the secondary education category. The list includes Shyamalima Borah from Jorhat, Bijan Roy Bhowmick from Kamrup Metropolitan, and Manab Bharali from Nalbari. Riju Kumar Chutia represents Dibrugarh, Probin Koch hails from Sonitpur, and Ranendra Kumar Das comes from Barpeta. Azizur Rahman of Dhubri, Manik Chandra Nath of Nagaon, and Bibi Prasad Brahma of Kokrajhar round out the secondary school group.
Six winners come from the elementary education ranks. They are Pulaska Rajkhowa of Golaghat, Saranga Nirmalia of Hojai, and Diti Moni Dutta from Dibrugarh. Befula Deka Saikia represents Darrang, Swastyayan Deb serves Cachar, and Kamsing Hanse represents Karbi Anglong. Dibrugarh claims two of the fifteen total award winners. The remaining 13 districts each hold one recipient.
