Guwahati: The Assam government will hand out the State Teachers Award 2026 to 15 educators on Saturday, September 5. This ceremony honors the 65th anniversary of Teachers Day. The event takes place at the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati.
A state level committee picked the winners. The Directorate of Secondary Education released the final list after government approval. The group includes principals, assistant teachers, postgraduate teachers, head teachers, and one headmaster. The recipients span both secondary and elementary schools. As the state government stated, the award recognizes "their contributions to school education in the state."
Nine educators earned spots in the secondary education category. The list includes Shyamalima Borah from Jorhat, Bijan Roy Bhowmick from Kamrup Metropolitan, and Manab Bharali from Nalbari. Riju Kumar Chutia represents Dibrugarh, Probin Koch hails from Sonitpur, and Ranendra Kumar Das comes from Barpeta. Azizur Rahman of Dhubri, Manik Chandra Nath of Nagaon, and Bibi Prasad Brahma of Kokrajhar round out the secondary school group.
Six winners come from the elementary education ranks. They are Pulaska Rajkhowa of Golaghat, Saranga Nirmalia of Hojai, and Diti Moni Dutta from Dibrugarh. Befula Deka Saikia represents Darrang, Swastyayan Deb serves Cachar, and Kamsing Hanse represents Karbi Anglong. Dibrugarh claims two of the fifteen total award winners. The remaining 13 districts each hold one recipient.

The list includes specific roles and institutions for the 15 awardees. In the secondary category, Shyamalima Borah leads Malow Ali Higher Secondary School in Jorhat. Bijan Roy Bhowmick teaches at Kamakhya Vidyalay High School in Kamrup Metropolitan. Manab Bharali works at Govt Gurdon HS School in Nalbari, while Riju Kumar Chutia is at PM Shri Rahmaria Higher Secondary School in Dibrugarh. Probin Koch serves at Tezpur Govt HS School in Sonitpur. Ranendra Kumar Das heads PM Shri Bhella HS School in Barpeta. Azizur Rahman teaches at PM Shri Jamadarhat Janata HS School in Dhubri. Manik Chandra Nath is at Barapujia Higher Secondary School in Nagaon, and Bibi Prasad Brahma works at Harinaguri High School in Kokrajhar.
The elementary winners also hold specific posts. Pulaska Rajkhowa is the head teacher at Chowkial LP School in Golaghat. Saranga Nirmalia heads Hatikhali Assamese LP School in Lumding, Hojai. Diti Moni Dutta teaches at Phatikachowa Abhoipuria MVS in Dibrugarh. Befula Deka Saikia is at No. 182 Gobinda Dham LPS in Darrang, and Swastyayan Deb works at No. 57 Tikal Par TE LPS in Cachar. Kamsing Hanse leads Bakaliaghat Govt MV School in Karbi Anglong.
Separately, the All Assam Adarsha Vidyalaya Organisation selected five educators for the Best Adarsha Teacher Award. Dr. Ramen Kumar Bayan, headmaster of Dakuchi Adarsha Vidyalaya in the Boko-Chaygaon area, joins this group. These teachers will receive their honors at a different ceremony held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. The state now operates 57 Adarsha Vidyalayas, a jump from the 14 launched in 2014.
