Guwahati: A three-day national summit kicked off Monday at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship in Lalmati, Guwahati. The event focuses on the empowerment, skilling, and digital development of Assam tea garden communities. It runs through October 7. Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi is running the show, partnering with the OKD Institute of Social Change and Development in Guwahati.
This gathering flows from a research project funded by the ICSSR. The study looks at how digital literacy and job training can lift these communities. Attendees include government officials, academics, and skill-development practitioners. Guests of honor Hanif Noorani, Mission Director of the Assam Skill Development Mission, and OKDISCD Director Saswati Choudhury opened the session.
Other attendees include Quazi Ferdoushi Islam, Rajdeep Singha, Nivedita Goswami, Kaushal Kishore, Ahrar Hussain, Sameer Babu M., Zeba Tabassum, Pinku Choudhury, Dhiraj Singha, Keshabananda Haloi, and Jyotirmoy Hazarika. They talked shop about employability and livelihood diversification. Participants argued that progress requires more than standard welfare. They want better career counseling and sharper focus on market-oriented training.
Organizers hope to align academic research with actual policy. The project lead stated the goal is to bridge gaps between research, policy, and implementation to "support more inclusive and sustainable development strategies for tea garden communities across the state." The event draws experts from IIT Guwahati and various state departments to create a roadmap for future progress.
