Shillong: The Meghalaya government hired the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati to run a quality audit on road works under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project. Road safety is also getting a hard look. Independent consultants are now performing safety audits across the project.
These consultants include M/s LEA Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd., India, and M/s MSV International Inc. The latter firm works in partnership with M/s MSV International Tech Pvt. Ltd. and M/s Orion Infra Consulting Pvt. Ltd. These groups monitor the MITP work.
Roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana follow a specific three-tier system. Tier 1 mandates field-level checks by PWD divisions. Tier 2 brings in independent State Quality Monitors. Finally, Tier 3 involves National Quality Monitors sent by the Ministry of Rural Development. The government stated, "National Quality Monitors deputed by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, which also act as audits."
For the PMGSY projects, two independent agencies handle quality monitoring. M/s Suvadra Consultants from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and M/s Sumanil Designers & Consultants Pvt. Ltd. from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, landed these roles. They won the work through a national Request for Quotations process.
