IIT Guwahati Experts Inspect Major Meghalaya Road Collapse

Shillong: Engineers from IIT Guwahati inspected a massive road cave-in in Meghalaya. The disaster destroyed an entire section of the route. East Khasi Hills District officials ordered the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. to explain how they plan to fix it.

A review meeting took place Thursday, chaired by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil). The administration wants updates twice a week. They demand strict deadlines for every phase of the project, including the expert report and actual construction. Officials are pushing for either a full repair or a temporary bypass to restore connectivity as soon as possible.

The Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the scale of the destruction. "As is clear from the visuals, it's quite a major landslide. The entire road has caved in," the official said. Repairs will likely drag on for months. NHIDCL representatives admitted the work requires substantial time and will not be finished in one or two months.

The administration currently waits for the minutes of Thursday's meeting. Once received, the state expects the NHIDCL to publish a precise schedule for the restoration work.
