Kohima: The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) inspected the landslide site at Phesama Village on September 9. The road remains broken. Despite the ongoing disruption, no repair crews have started work on this vital link between Nagaland and Manipur.
SAYO president Zasitsolie Beio and general secretary Keneisel Tetso warned that the closure is throttling the movement of essential goods and services. The group met with the Phesama Village Council and the Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO) to discuss the stagnation. Everyone is frustrated. Local leaders blame a total lack of coordination between the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), government officials, and community representatives.
The current bypass is a death trap. Thousands of vehicles traverse the steep, rocky path every day. PYO leadership warned that heavy rain makes the route extremely hazardous for public safety. Regarding the danger, the PYO president said the bypass, which carries thousands of vehicles daily, becomes "particularly hazardous during heavy rainfall."
SAYO praised the Phesama Village Council and the PYO for their selfless help to commuters during the crisis. The organization now demands that NHIDCL act immediately to restore normal connectivity. SAYO promised to provide any cooperation necessary to speed up the repairs.
