Motorists must stay alert. Heavy rain increases the danger of rockslides and mudslides on this stretch. Phesama Village Council chairman Tuolie Seleyi wants the Nagaland Government and the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to fix the road for good. He warned that the area sits in a precarious spot where ground slides from both the hill above and the slope below.
"The affected area remains highly vulnerable, with landslides occurring from both the hillside above and the slope below the road, posing a constant threat to commuters," Seleyi said.
Last year, mudslides blocked traffic for weeks. Students headed to Japfü Christian College, St. Joseph University, and St. Paul Higher Secondary School struggled to reach their classes. An emergency bypass road kept light vehicles moving last year, but that is not a fix. Seleyi is pushing for permanent slope stabilization to protect travelers moving between Nagaland and Manipur. Authorities advise people to skip non-essential trips when it rains and watch for official warnings.
