Phesama Landslide Fix Expected by November

Kohima: Crews plan to open the Phesama stretch of NH-2 by the first week of November. Officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited delivered this news on September 28. They inspected the site between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100 earlier today.

Police, district officials, and local groups joined the inspection. The Kohima-Mao road remains a mess. MLA Kevipodi Sophie noted that recurring slides and non-stop rain slowed down the heavy lifting. Sophie stated: "The disruption had affected residents, schoolchildren and the transportation of essential commodities."

The highway serves as a vital trade link to Southeast Asia. Farmers lost paddy fields to the shifting earth. MLA Sophie said the government will consider these people for aid through the State Disaster Response Fund. Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem confirmed that no families lost their homes, though crops took a hit.

Traffic moved through Kezocha to bypass the blockage. This put heavy vehicle traffic onto local routes. Officials thanked the Southern Angami people and Phesama Village Council for managing the chaos. The district expects the highway to return to normal operation soon.
