Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem chaired a high-level meeting on September 10 to address road connectivity shattered by the August 5, 2026, landslide at Kewhitsütuo Model. The session at the DC office chamber focused on immediate relief, drainage fixes, and long-term stabilization for the vital stretch between Kewhitsütuo Model and the IG Stadium in Meriema. Work starts soon. This route serves as a primary alternative to NH-29.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority will issue relief funds via the State Disaster Response Fund to impacted residents. Meanwhile, the Urban Development Department must keep alternative routes open and inspect colony drains to prevent further water runoff damage. KSCDL, which manages the road, received orders to finalize restoration between October and December 2026. A proposal for Rs 1.20 crore in repair funding now heads to the State Government.
Local leadership cleared the way for construction. T Khel Council and Kewhitsütuo Model Council pledged to provide necessary No Objection Certificates to speed up slope stabilization. A joint team will perform a damage assessment on September 14 at 7:00 AM. Deputy Commissioner Buchem pushed for urgency across the district. He told departments to finish clearing choked drains quickly and stated, "KSCDL to prioritize the damaged road, which serves as a vital arterial alternative route to NH-29."
