Kohima DC Orders Urgent Repairs for Failing Town Roads

Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem ordered agencies to fix the town’s crumbling roads immediately. He set a firm deadline of November 2026 for most repairs during an October 8 review meeting. Residents are fed up. The city's current road condition is a mess.

The Urban Development Department must fix the Phizo Hill Junction to Keyake road and the DBS Junction to Medical College stretch by November 2026. These areas have sections that are actively sinking. The department must make these routes safe and motorable right now while drafting permanent stability plans.

For NH-150 between DBS Junction and the BSF Camp, the National Highways department is waiting on MoRTH funds to stabilize a sinking zone between kilometer 6.200 and 6.650. They expect the road to be passable by late October 2026. Meanwhile, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited must clear the Keyake Junction and the NH-2 sinking zone at Phesama for heavy vehicles by the second week of November 2026.

Local youth groups from Kohima, P Khel, and D Khel reported that heavy trucks are shredding village roads, causing major hardship. Senior Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso said, "The movement of HMVs through village roads could be avoided once the sinking zones at Phesama along NH-2 and the Phizo Hill Junction-Keyake (BSF Camp) stretch were restored."

The NPWD noted that the Kezoma-Kidima-Pudunamei road is currently motorable. Buchem expects results. He warned officials to show up to future meetings in person. All involved agencies must file a progress report to the DC’s office by October 16.
