Kohima Officials Lift Security Curbs While Targeting City Hazards

Kohima: District Magistrate B. Henok Buchem officially lifted prohibitory orders in Kohima on Friday. The rules, set under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, restricted assemblies around Lok Bhavan since October 27. Security agencies confirmed that public order is back. The restrictions officially ended on October 29.

The administration is now moving against city hazards. A series of directives issued on October 29 aim to clear road encroachments and secure construction sites. These mandates reinforce older orders from November 2025. Failure to follow these rules will lead to forced removals, with all costs billed to the property owners. Officials confirmed that "non-compliance will attract strict legal penalties under relevant provisions of the law."

Buchem ordered the removal of construction debris, poorly maintained toilets, and pigsties blocking roads. All construction sites must now feature perimeter hoarding, debris netting, or scaffold shrink-wrap to stop dust and protect pedestrians. Redundant overhead cables and pipes from telecom, cable, and water agencies must also go. Providers must bundle active lines to meet safety standards. Authorities warned these companies that crews will dismantle ignored equipment at the owner's expense.
