Kohima: Federal agents finally cuffed a suspect in the July 13 IED blast that rocked Chümoukedima. The National Investigation Agency apprehended the 35-year-old man in Jalukie, Peren district, on October 29. He was already on the radar after local police questioned him shortly after the attack.
The explosion near the Khovanalla iron bridge in Chümoukedima A killed one Assam Rifles soldier. Four others sustained injuries during the blast. The NIA took over the probe from Nagaland Police in late July after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs ordered the handoff. The elite National Security Guards also scoured the site for evidence.
The suspect appeared before a special NIA court on October 30. He is now in federal custody. Sources confirmed, "He was placed under NIA custody following a remand hearing before the Special NIA court on October 30." Officials moved him to an undisclosed location to face intense questioning.
