Kohima: A suspected IED blast killed one Assam Rifles soldier and wounded several others on July 13 in Chümoukedima. The attack occurred near an Assam Rifles convoy. Organizations across Nagaland are demanding swift justice and an impartial investigation into the violence.
The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation condemned the blast as a threat to collective security. They urged citizens to choose dialogue over conflict. The group stated: "Lasting peace is indivisible." They also pushed stakeholders to move past division and work together to deny space to those intent on disruption.
The Western Sümi Students' Union labeled the explosion a "cowardly and inhuman act." They insisted the state administration and security forces must strictly apply the law to hold the perpetrators accountable. Similarly, the Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town, led by president I Nungsang Jamir and general secretary Amen Kuotsu, called the strike an assault on public safety.
Naga Hoho president Sulanthung Lotha issued a statement condemning the heinous incident. He called for immediate intervention from the state government and the Assam Rifles to prevent further instability. Reports indicate conflicting counts on the injured, with figures ranging from four to five individuals wounded in the attack. All organizations extended condolences to the family of the fallen soldier and offered prayers for the recovery of the survivors.
