Guwahati: Assam police hauled in a 31-year-old man on Monday morning. They caught Mrigen Saloi at a rented home in Gauripur under the Changsari Police Station jurisdiction. The Special Task Force led the operation. He is now in custody for alleged ties to a terror module controlled by the Pakistan-based Shahzad Bhatti network.
Officers seized documents and electronic devices during the raid. These items remain under investigation. Saloi, originally from Belsor in Nalbari district, worked for a private firm in Changsari for the past year. Police claim he maintained direct contact with suspected members of the Bhatti network based in Pakistan.
This arrest brings the total count of suspects caught in Assam to five. Authorities previously nabbed individuals across Dhubri, Chirang, Barpeta, and Hailakandi. A state police spokesperson confirmed the sweep is part of a larger push against extremist activity, stating: "The arrest was part of the STF's ongoing investigation and action against extremist and anti-national networks and their operatives."
