Kohima: A deadly improvised explosive device blast killed one Assam Rifles soldier and wounded four others on July 13 near the Khopanala bridge. While initial reports placed the strike in Shokhuvi, the Shokhuvi Village Council issued a formal correction on July 15. The explosion occurred within the jurisdiction of Chümoukedima A village. H Vekuto Swu, chairman of the council, demanded media outlets fix the location to stop the spread of misinformation.

The attack triggered widespread condemnation from tribal bodies, student groups, and political organizations. The Angami Youth Organization labeled the incident a pre-planned ambush, vowing to hunt down those responsible. The Naga Students Federation called for a time-bound, impartial investigation. They warned that outside elements are attempting to turn the homeland into a theatre for violence. The Naga Hoho, the Western Sümi Students Union, and the Chümoukedima Circle Chakhroma Public Organisation also echoed calls for swift justice.

Tensions remain high regarding the regional security climate. The NSCN (IM) slammed Indian security forces for conducting unauthorized, warrant-less raids at TM Kasom and Makuilongdi villages. They reported that four civilians were abducted during these operations. The group described the militarization of residential areas as a breach of the Ceasefire Ground Rules. "It is not an agreement giving them sole rights to act on their own whims and fancy," the group stated. They demanded an independent probe into these alleged violations.

Working Committee, NNPGs convenor N. Kitovi Zhimomi called the blast an unforgivable provocation. He warned that those choosing violence over political dialogue would face the wrath of the people. The committee reminded the public that they previously signed the Geneva Call three Deeds of Commitment, which include a ban on anti-personnel mines. Other groups, including the NNC/FGN and NSCN/GPRN (Reformation), reaffirmed their commitment to the 1964 Indo-Naga Ceasefire Agreement, urging all parties to return to the table.

The Nagaland Joint Christian Forum urged churches to pray for an end to this cycle of bloodshed. Local leaders at the Chakhroma Gaon Burah Association confirmed the blast occurred within their territory. They appealed for public calm and cooperation with law enforcement. Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators behind the attack.
