Guwahati: Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devasish Sharma broke a heated standoff in Raha on August 31. He met with protesters blocking the National Highway to hear their demands. The move cleared the road. Traffic began moving again.
Multiple groups, including the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad and the All Assam Students Union, organized the demonstration. They demanded immediate repairs for the highway. The groups also pushed for toll tax exemptions for Raha residents and the construction of a service road near the local flyover.
Sharma spoke directly with the crowd on-site. He promised to hold future discussions on the grievances. This direct engagement convinced the organizations to stand down. The blockade ended quickly. Administration officials framed the resolution as a win for direct dialogue over conflict.
