Kohima: Nagaland Director General of Police Rupin Sharma visited the scene of a suspected IED blast near the Khovanalla bridge in Chümoukedima on Wednesday. The explosion occurred on July 13 as a vehicle carrying jawans from an Assam Rifles camp passed by. Sharma called the timing a very narrow window and admitted the investigation requires deep digging.
Police are hunting for leads. Sharma urged locals to report suspicious individuals or sightings of fleeing vehicles. He specifically requested information regarding shops that recently sold iron rods, fuses, batteries, or wires. While the state currently lacks advanced forensic tools, officials brought in the National Security Guard to assist with the blast analysis.
The state government expects to decide within days if a central agency should take over the case. Investigators currently have no specific suspects or groups on their target list. Sharma noted, "We are very hopeful that we should be able to get proper leads in this case" while acknowledging that criminals typically leave traces behind. Officials remain focused on physical evidence. "So in that, whether it is anyone from Nagaland or outside, or outside the country, we have everybody on our radar but no specific person or any group as of today," Sharma stated.
