Kohima: Unidentified individuals kidnapped businessman Altaf Hussain from the busy New Market in Dimapur on October 28. Broad daylight surveillance footage captured the abduction in the cramped lanes. Law enforcement failed to intervene. The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed outrage over the incident on Friday.
The group demands his immediate, safe, and unconditional release. They argue this crime is "yet another disturbing reminder of the growing insecurity faced by the business community in Nagaland" and signals a failure of local law enforcement machinery. The chamber now calls for transparency and swift arrests regarding the perpetrators.
Officials from the CNCCI addressed the NPG group linked to the act. They insisted the historic Naga struggle for independence cannot justify kidnapping or extortion against innocent citizens. These criminal acts are anti-people and damage the reputation of the movement. The organization urged the NPG to focus on the Indo-Naga solution instead of victimizing local merchants.
The chamber expects full cooperation from the New Market Business Owners Association and local leaders to help catch the criminals. Members believe that lawlessness has no place in the region. They refuse to operate under constant fear and pressure. Authorities must restore order, enforce the law, and ensure safety for all business owners.
