Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union held candlelight rallies across the state on Thursday. Protesters demanded the government take immediate action in the death of singer Zubeen Garg. The outcry follows a string of bail orders for suspects linked to his passing in Singapore.
AASU president Utpal Sarma issued a warning on Thursday evening. He stated, "Despite the people of Assam continuously raising their voices demanding justice for Zubeen Garg, the fact that one accused after another is securing bail is naturally a matter of concern."
Tension remains high. The Gauhati High Court already cleared two of the seven accused for bail. In the Doomdooma co-district of Tinsukia, the local AASU committee gathered at the Town Playing Field to organize the dissent. Crowds marched through the town to Gandhi Chowk while chanting for accountability.
Protim Neog, the Tinsukia district committee president, spoke to the gathered protesters. He noted, "Zubeen Da was our beloved, someone who was a part of every family in Assam." The union wants the government to handle the case with seriousness and ensure those responsible receive exemplary punishment under the law.
