AASU Candidate Launches Hunger Strike After Gauhati University Election Disqualification

Guwahati: Nayan Protim Bora launched a hunger strike at Gauhati University on Friday, September 25. He refuses to eat. The protest follows the university's decision to scrap his candidacy for the general secretary position. Bora holds the backing of the All Assam Students Union, known as AASU.

Supporters joined Bora to demand that campus officials explain exactly why they pulled his name from the ballot. They claim the university administration has stonewalled them. No official explanation exists yet. The school remains silent on the specific grounds for his disqualification.

Chaos erupted on campus as agitators torched tires. The situation is tense. With Bora out of the running, the university declared the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad candidate, Madhurjya Plabon Talukdar, the winner of the general secretary race by default. He faced no opposition.

Bora's supporters insist their leader will stay on strike until they get answers. "The hunger strike will continue until the university explains the reasons behind the cancellation of his candidature," the group stated. The standoff shows no signs of cooling down.
