AASU Secures Victory in Cotton University Student Elections

Guwahati: AASU-backed candidates swept the Cotton University Students' Union polls on Thursday. They took seven of the 14 available seats. The organization claimed the top roles of president and general secretary. Election results followed the September 30 vote.

Hariprasad Chetia won the presidency. Ujjal Deka claimed the general secretary post. Both winners reside at the RKB Hostel. Other AASU victories include Anjali Mardi for debate secretary and Debasmita Baruah for cultural secretary. The university noted these results underline the continuing presence of competing student organizations in campus politics. It is a major hub for higher education in the state.

The ABVP secured four seats. Cynee Baruah won assistant general secretary. Geetsrishti Hazarika took social service secretary. Divyajyoti Rabha won the boys' common room secretary spot. Krishamoni Rabha secured the athletics secretary position.

Candidates from the Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti won three seats. The National Students' Union of India failed to win any positions. Other victors include Angelina Basumatary, vice president; Nandini Doley, minor games secretary; Nayanjyoti Loing, tennis, swimming and gymnasium secretary; Avinash Bora, Cottonian secretary; Liza Pegu, girls' common room secretary; and Disha Pathak, music secretary.
