Guwahati: Gauhati University officials pulled back the cancellation of Nayan Akash Bora’s nomination today. The AASU-backed candidate is back in the race. This follows intense backlash over how the Election Tribunal handled his disqualification.

The university dumped the entire Election Tribunal. Officials admitted the group failed to follow established rules. They also denied Bora a fair chance to state his case. The university now aims to fix the mess.

Authorities are forming a new Grievance Redressal Cell to handle future election disputes. This unit will manage complaints for the remainder of the contest. University officials acknowledged the original process had major shortcomings. "The university has also decided to dissolve the existing Election Tribunal, which had rejected Bora’s nomination, and constitute a new Grievance Redressal Cell to deal with complaints and disputes related to the election process."

Supporters of the All Assam Students’ Union raised hell over the lack of transparency. They demanded fairness for their candidate. Bora remains eligible to vie for his seat now. The university hopes this move calms the heated climate surrounding the student vote.
