Gauhati University Election Tribunal Rejects Two Candidates for Dual Enrollment

Guwahati: The Election Tribunal for the 2026-27 Post Graduate Students Union election wants two candidates off the ballot. Nayan Akash Bora and Pratik Sharma face disqualification for chasing two degrees at once. The tribunal met on September 24 to review the case. They reached a firm conclusion.

The committee claims this dual enrollment breaks Clause 10 of the Gauhati University Ordinance. This policy has governed PG admissions since the 2006-07 academic session. They also pointed to Clause 1 of the April 2022 UGC Guidelines for Pursuing Two Academic Programmes Simultaneously. The tribunal stated: "The committee considered the issue of the two candidates pursuing two postgraduate courses simultaneously."

Election officials received the recommendation for immediate action. Bora is barred from running for President or General Secretary. Sharma cannot seek the roles of Boys Common Room Secretary or Social Service Secretary. The Returning Officer now holds the final say on the matter.
