Assam Governor Leads Barpeta Anti-Drug March

Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya marched through Barpeta on September 26 to fight drug addiction. The Nasha Mukt Bharat Sankalp Padayatra kicked off at the District Library and ended at the District Commissioner’s Office. Hundreds joined the walk. Barpeta MLA Dipak Kumar Das, District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak, and Senior Superintendent of Police Sushanta Biswa Sarma led the procession alongside NCC cadets and local residents.

Acharya spoke to the crowd at the District Library. He pushed for a united front to save the youth from substance abuse. The Governor warned that the nation must keep the younger generation healthy to reach the goal of a Viksit Bharat. He stated, "The country could not afford to lose its young generation to substance abuse."

District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak thanked the Governor for his leadership. Meanwhile, SSP Sushanta Biswa Sarma asked the public to work closer with cops to clean up the streets. Eight people received awards for their anti-drug work during the event. This group included ASHA worker Moyful Nessa and Anganwadi worker Janmoni Konwar Nath. Police officers Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, Sarat Kakoti, Satyajit Borthakur, Bikash Kr Roy, Rahul Das, and Dipankar Borah also took home honors.

The event closed with the Governor laying flowers at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near the District Commissioner’s Office. Barpeta Sattra Burha Satriya Babul Chandra Das and social worker Gunindra Nath Das were among the final attendees who promised to keep the pressure on.
