Guwahati: Gauhati University set its PGSU election for the 2026-27 session. Polling begins September 30. Officials will count the votes on October 1. The Returning Officer issued the formal notification this week.
Students collect nomination forms at Room 12 in the Office of the Secretary, University Classes. Paperwork is available September 22 from 10:30 am to 4 pm and September 23 from 10:30 am to 2 pm. Submit completed forms by 3 pm on September 23 at the Secretary’s chamber. Scrutiny starts at 3:15 pm, and officials will post valid candidate lists after 5 pm.
Candidates may withdraw from the race September 24 between 10 am and 2 pm. The final list arrives after 5 pm that same day. Campaigning runs from 6 pm on September 24 to 6 pm on September 28. The university hosts an open debate at the BKB Auditorium on September 28 in two shifts, from 11 am to 1:30 pm and 2 pm to 4:30 pm.
Voters head to the polls on September 30 from 9 am to 3 pm. Four designated sites will host the vote: Students’ Day Home, Room 17 of University Law College, and the Departments of Assamese and Sanskrit in the New Academic Building. Vote counting starts at 9 am on October 1 at the New Academic Building, followed by the declaration of results.
Heads of departments must finalize elections for Departmental Representatives to the PGSU. Submit these names to the Returning Officer at Room 14, Office of the Secretary, University Classes. The deadline is October 1, 2026. As the notice states, "nominations will be invited from bona fide members of the PGSU for various office-bearer posts for the 2026-27 session."
