Guwahati: Assam electoral officials confirmed a Special Summary Revision of voter rolls starting October 16. The state plans to publish a draft list on November 12 and release the final version on January 4, 2027. This work aims to fix errors and purge records. Election officers will hunt for duplicate entries, names of the deceased, and people who have moved away.
Polling stations are getting a major overhaul. District Election Officers must complete a total physical verification of every existing and proposed site by November 2. Inspectors will check building conditions against Election Commission standards. The CEO office stated, "The exercise aims to ensure accurate, inclusive and error-free electoral rolls by identifying duplicate entries, names of deceased electors and those who have permanently shifted."
Registration officers will keep caseloads under 1,200 voters per station. Officials plan to shift sections between polling sites to balance crowds. They also aim to cap travel distance at 2 kilometers for all voters, avoiding natural barriers where possible. Any plan to move a station requires GPS coordinates and verification.
Voters can file claims or objections from November 12 through December 11. Officers will resolve these disputes by December 28. District leads will consult with recognized political parties throughout the process. They must present all consolidated proposals to the Election Commission for final sign-off.
