Imphal: Imphal West district is scrubbing its electoral rolls. Nearly 2.6 lakh voters face scrutiny due to logical discrepancies in their files. District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar confirmed the drive today at the DC Office. He noted that the process follows strict Election Commission of India mandates to keep voter data clean for upcoming elections.
Booth Level Officers are currently hitting the streets. They are conducting door-to-door checks under the watch of Electoral Registration Officers. These workers will visit homes, verify personal details, and serve notices where errors exist. Rajkumar said most problems are simple clerical slip-ups. "The majority of the discrepancies identified are of a routine nature and do not necessarily indicate irregularities."
Typographical errors and surname variations top the list of flagged issues. The district administration is working closely with the Manipur Chief Electoral Officer to finish the audit without bothering genuine voters. Rajkumar wants political parties, Booth Level Agents, civil groups, and local clubs to help spread the word and encourage public participation.
The effort also addresses displaced citizens. Officials have moved 1,684 enumeration forms for Internally Displaced Persons through the Chief Electoral Officer. Imphal West has specifically received 470 of these forms to process. The administration promised to help these voters enroll and fix their records so they do not lose their right to vote.
