Imphal: A new political party, the Manipur Indigenous Alliance, formed today at a conference in Meitram, Imphal West. The group intends to unite Indigenous communities to safeguard land, culture, and livelihoods. Party members formally adopted a constitution during the event, framing their mission as a democratic and peaceful effort to address the current state of affairs in Manipur.
The MIA intends to push for social justice, environmental safety, and decentralized governance while operating within the constitutional framework of India. According to the party, the MIA has been formed in response to the present situation in Manipur and the growing need for Indigenous communities to come together on a common democratic and constitutional political platform for the protection and preservation of Manipur and the well-being of its people.
Leadership elections placed Soraisam Surendra Singh as President and Gaidingmei Golmei as Vice-President. Administrative roles include General Secretary Khaidem Devchand Singh, Organization Secretary Raingam Keishing, and Publicity Secretary Bk. Joyson. Ronald Naorem will serve as Treasurer, with Abishai Kashung acting as Secretary.
The party also finalized a flag and proposed a symbol, both of which require approval from the Election Commission of India. Officials plan to register the party under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The party will base its operations out of its new central office at Sagolband Tera Khuraijam Leikai, Imphal West 795001.
