Agartala: The CPI(M)-led Left Front will contest 26 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation elections. Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury announced the deal on November 2. Candidates began filing nomination papers for these wards immediately. The alliance left 25 wards undecided. They will settle those soon.
Chaudhury said, "The remaining seats and candidates would be finalised through mutual discussions after their return." Congress leaders are currently traveling back from Delhi. The final split for the remaining 25 wards will likely happen within two days. The Left Front plans to take a few of those, leaving most to Congress.
The alliance strategy extends beyond the capital. Both parties plan to coordinate across other municipal councils in Tripura. They aim to force a shift in local governance. Their campaign will push for the restoration of democracy, anti-corruption measures, and reliable civic services.
Chaudhury attacked the ruling party over its record. He claimed their version of growth only serves the powerful. He said, "The ruling party's claims of development did not reflect the everyday concerns of ordinary people." He mocked the construction of multi-story homes for officials and the accumulation of luxury vehicles. The opposition argues voters need working public services, not empty promises from politicians.
