Agartala: Agartala turned into a political flashpoint on July 22 as both the BJP and Congress staged competing protest rallies. The BJP hit the streets to accuse Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of conspiring to destabilize the nation. Their march, led by state president Abhishek Debroy, wound through the capital before ending at the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters.
Debroy warned that the opposition party aims to sow chaos. He explicitly linked their actions to regional instability. "An attempt is being made to turn the situation in India like Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. But India's democracy is safe in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and people from every section of society stand with him," Debroy said.
The BJP leader blasted Gandhi for allegedly receiving foreign NGO funds to stir up unrest. He also defended the Prime Minister against what he called a smear campaign. Meanwhile, the Congress held its own demonstration to protest police violence against students fighting the NEET exam paper leak. Former minister Sudip Roy Barman led the party's call for accountability.
Congress wants results. They demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They also want a formal apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the dropping of all legal charges against student protesters. Roy Barman accused the police of manhandling Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sonia Gandhi during recent demonstrations in New Delhi.
The two parties remain deadlocked. BJP officials claim the Congress is trying to bifurcate India. Congress maintains they will back the youth until the examination system is overhauled. As of now, neither side shows any sign of backing down.
