Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura held a major protest rally in Agartala on July 22. Party members marched from their state headquarters, moving through city streets before demonstrating outside the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee office. The protest targeted Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Tripura BJP President Abhishek Debroy led the march. He was joined by ministers, MLAs, and senior officials, including Rabindra Raju, Arindam Deb, Ratan Lal Nath, and Sudhanghsu Das. They accused Congress of conspiring against national stability. Debroy alleged that the opposition works with anti-India forces, specifically naming the deep state and George Soros, to stall development. He claimed, “An attempt is being made to turn the situation in India like Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. But India’s democracy is safe in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and people from every section of society stand with him.”
The BJP leaders dismissed the ongoing student protests regarding NEET paper leaks. They argued these demonstrations are being used as a front to attack Hindutva and Prime Minister Modi. Debroy cited historical examples like the Narmada Dam project and Naxalism in Bastar as evidence of a pattern to stall national progress. He characterized the recent sit-in at the Prime Minister's residence as a political stunt.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reinforced these attacks on Wednesday. He criticized Rahul Gandhi for staging a dharna instead of participating in parliamentary debates. Saha noted that the government had already agreed to discuss the NEET issue before the opposition demanded the Education Minister's resignation. He claimed the Congress is suffering from an existential crisis and is attempting to mimic recent foreign political upheavals. The Chief Minister maintained that the current protest sites are populated by non-students. The Congress party has issued no official response to the allegations.
